What is the difference between an update and an upgrade

The Updates
They are free and no limit of time is fixed in advance.

Cartopro is constantly updated with many improvements but also simply when removing a bugs.

The Upgrade
If the programm is completely reorganized and profoundly modified to be more suitable with current needed then its name will change.
It was the case in April 2005 when
"Cartopro" was upgraded to "Cartopro Evolution"
Upgrade have to be paid, but the hold version remaind fonctional ...

After several hours, tracking mode stops and you have to restart Cartopro
This is due to the version 2.1 of the Garmin USB drivers. You have to update your drivers to the version 2.21 or more
Cartopro install the version 2.21 by default from the 13.06.2007, except if a driver is already installed

To verify the version of your drivers, start an connect your GPS then click on
Start, Control panel, System, Device, Device Manager, GARMIN Device, Garmin USB GPS, and then click on Drivers

The version of your drivers is noted as above

To update your version click on:
"Start, Programs, Cartopro Evolution, Drivers, Garmin USB Drivers"

Follow instruction of the garmin installer
Keep attention, you will need to plug your GPS when the installer will ask for ...

Error: CARTOPRO.EXE file is linked to missing export SETUPAPI.DLL ...

If running on a Windows 95 PC which does not support USB you may receive this message at startup:
You may ignore this message but you have to uncheck "Garmin USB
" in the options of Cartopro.

If Cartopro Evolution does not start at all, you can download and install this patch to get a version without USB fonctionality.
Install the patch on the same folder where Cartopro Evolution is already installed.

http://www.cartopro.com/Files/Evolution/CartoproEvSansUsb.exe
Link removed, please contact me for further informations

This version without USB functionality will not be updated like the normal version of Cartopro Evolution.

Waypoint names are unfinished or are filled with strange characters

Position of name in Garmin protocol can vary between devices.
In CartoGps.ini file, you can adjust that by correcting the number near NamePos under the category that define your GPS.
One unit correspond to a character shift of one.

I can not (drag & drop) coordinates from Stretch window to other windows

On each window you will find a blue header defining the type of coordinate you are reading.
You have to click on this header to drag & drop coordinates from a window to another.
Stretch is read only, you can not drop coordinates in to it.

Can I calibrate Maps from every coordinates systems?

Yes, but you will need to find a tool to convert them in degree. See if your GPS already do it, otherwise you will need a software that convert your coordinates.
You will find some tools on Internet.

Do not forget that you will need to know the right datum corresponding to your coordinates before conversion.

Can I transfer maps into my Garmin GPS?

No, Cartopro do not transfer maps but only Routes, Tracks and Waypoints.

However, you can print your maps with track on top by yusing your printer.
Printing can be very useful if you also add a grid like U.T.M. WGS84 on.
The grid will allow you to easilly find your position by reading your GPS on site.

How can I print a map with U.T.M. grid on A3 paper format ?

Select the unit you want on Stretch window. Next you have to display grid by menu: => Grid => Displaying
After that, click on menu => File => Print. A window will appear on which you can click the Prt Setup button.
Set your printer on A3 paper size. Finally, move the colored frame at the position you want to print then clik on Print button.
If nothing is printed, see here

Can I update my notebook even if it is not connected to the web?

Yes you have to download the file CartoproSetup.exe by this link
Double click on the downloaded file CartoproSetup.exe to replace the old version by the new one.
You will not need to reenter your licence after the update.
